How to Initiate a WoW Class as a Champion:

Each champion-initiated WoW class needs a volunteer “wellness champion” who can serve as a liaison with the HIP WoW Coordinator. Requesting a WoW class involves the following steps:

  1. Identify what type of class participants would like to have brought to your location.
  2. Identify interested participants and the day and time that potential participants prefer.
  3. For Fitness classes, you will need a minimum of 10 participants to secure an once a week class and 14 participants to secure a twice a week class (Note: Not all types of classes are offered on a twice a week basis).

For Healthy Living classes, the minimum is 10 participants.

  4. Identify and reserve a space at your work site for the duration of the class that can accommodate the type of class requested. For fitness classes, this is usually a conference room that can be rearranged for the class. Verify that the facility approves
    1. fitness classes being held in the space,
    2. furniture being moved, and
    3. sound (music, voices, movement) that may emanate from the space.

The Responsibilities of a WoW Champion or a Department Representative Include:

  1. Ensure that the minimum enrollment requirement is met.
  2. Reserve a room for the WoW class.
  3. Obtain facility approval:
  4. For the specific type of WoW class

    For moving furniture, if applicable

For music and fitness class-related noise, if applicable

  5. Advertise the class to the appropriate group.
  6. Communicate with participants regarding registration information, other class details and any changes.
  7. Plan/arrange for furniture to be moved appropriately before and after class, if applicable.
  8. Liaise with HIP to keep class details and information up-to-date, and handle any changes.
  9. For Department-sponsored WoW: set up a method of payment with HIP Office and have your department initiate a journal transfer for the cost of the class, if applicable.

Because HIP does not have access or control at all office sites/buildings/conference rooms/gyms, we especially appreciate your onsite assistance in assuring a safe and welcoming space for the participant experience.
