UCSF Stanford Health Care treats over 1,500 international patients annually. Patients come to UCSF Stanford for diverse expertise including cardiac and cancer care, organ transplantation, neurosurgery, and a wide array of pediatric services. Sixty percent of international patients come from Asia Pacific countries including Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines. Although the overall number of patients coming from China has been small, this number is growing. The factors contributing to this increase have been a growing mainland Chinese economy and a relaxation of travel restrictions on Chinese nationals. The International Medical Services department represents UCSF Stanford in a variety of international activities. These include annual medical symposia held throughout the Asia Pacific and monthly medical teleconferencing programs between California, the Philippines and Singapore. Later this year, UCSF Stanford Health Care will open South Asia's most advanced radiological imaging center in a joint venture with Singapore's Ministry of Health.
