Yanmin Yang Lab Team

Yanmin Yang, MD, PhD
Principal Investigator

Wei Wang, PhD (he/him)
Senior Research Scientist

My research interest is to study the neuronal cytoskeletal proteins via mice models. I am trying to understand how these proteins affect neurogenesis and neurodegeneration. During my leisure time, I enjoy reading, hiking, and cooking.

Sumana Bhowmick, PhD (she/her)
Postdoctoral Scholar

I joined Yanmin's lab in 2022 and have received excellent training and support so far. The goal of my research is to develop and apply powerful new multi-omics and computational approaches to gain insights into the chemical and molecular machinery of the neurodegenerative diseases, and other multidrug-resistant bacterium.

Wuxia Liu, PhD (she/her)
Postdoctoral Scholar

I am studying in the Yang lab as a postdoc. I received my Ph.D. in Genetics from Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now my research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cytoskeletal associated proteins in neurons. In my spare time, I like planting flowers.

Elena Zhang, BA (she/her)
Life Science Research Professional - Lab Manager

I am currently a Life Science Research Professional and acting as the lab manager at the Yang lab. I graduated from UC Berkeley in May 2021, where I studied Molecular & Cell Biology and Public Policy. My research focus is the role of microtubule-associated proteins in neurodegenerative diseases. Outside of the lab, I love baking desserts, skiing and exploring local coffee shops.

Richard Coca, BS (he/him)
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a current Master’s student in the Community Health and Prevention Research program at Stanford. During my undergrad, I studied Human Biology with a minor in Anthropology. My time in the Yang Lab is focused on neurodegenerative diseases. Outside of the lab, I host a weekly radio show, help organize concerts, draw silly little cartoons, sing horrible karaoke, and love visiting the Taco Bell Cantina in Pacifica.

Will Tarvestad (he/him)
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a B.S. candidate with Honors in Human Biology here at Stanford and joined the Yang Lab during the summer of 2021. My time in the lab has been focused on isolating the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases. I am on the Men’s Varsity Swimming and Diving team here at Stanford, and am pursuing an MD degree after undergrad.

Kevin Zheng (he/him)
Undergraduate Researcher

I am an undergraduate student studying biology with a concentration in neuroscience. I joined the Yang lab during the summer of 2021 to study axonal degeneration in Huntington’s disease. In my free time, I love dancing hip-hop and K-pop, learning how to play the guitar, and reading fantasy novels.
