Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity (SOGI) Training

Alway M208

LGBTQ-Meds are organizing a Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity (SOGI) Training in partnership with the San Mateo County Pride Center. This is an opportunity for LGBTQ-identifying individuals and strong allies to hear and learn directly from our community members. As an LGBTQ-Meds sponsored event, the facilitator will focus more on the medical field and to cover more advanced topics such as Queer Theory, Multiple Trans Identities, Intersectional Identities with being Queer and a POC, Intersectional Identities with being Queer and a Person with Disabilities, Living with HIV or AIDS, among others.

Workshop attendees are expected to be already familiar with pronouns and basic terminology around sexuality and gender. Some resources for basic terminology include: The ABC's of LGBTQ+! (https://sanmateopride.org/glossary/) and the Fenway Institute, Glossary of LGBT Terms for Health Care Teams (https://www.lgbthealtheducation.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Glossary-2018-English-update-1.pdf)

The workshop facilitator is Andres Loyola (they/them/theirs, she/her/hers). Andres Loyola is a proud Bay Area Native from the city of Oakland, CA. Andres is the Peer Support Worker with the San Mateo County Pride Center. In this role, Andres provides knowledge and experience, and emotional, social and practical support to clients and program participants. A big believer in Social Justice, Andres supports intersectional social movements across the globe and uses their Spanish to provide services to a larger community. Andres is a qualified Cultural Worker and holds a B.A. Degree in Sociology from the University of California Santa Barbara. On their time off, Andres likes to read novels and go for hikes around the SF Bay Area.

RSVP is required as dinner will be provided. Please feel free to contact Bright Zhou (brightz@stanford.edu) with questions/accessibility concerns.
